Diocese accepts 13 new seminarians this fall

New men entering seminary for the Diocese of Little Rock this fall include a physician, an electrical engineer and a newspaper editor. One of the most ethnically and educationally diverse groups entering the program, these 13 men bring the diocese's seminarian total to 33.

Benedictine order's era ends at Holy Souls Parish, school

For the first time since Our Lady of the Holy Souls School was founded in Little Rock 83 years ago, a new school year started without Benedictine sisters on staff.

Campus ministry leaders pave way for future mission trips

Maria Redford, a former campus ministry intern at St. Thomas Aquinas University Parish in Fayetteville, recently led a group of seven adults to Belize with the hope of establishing an opportunity for Arkansans to serve on international missions while reestablishing a presence begun by the Benedictine monks of Subiaco Abbey.

Jaime Torres used to be serious about his gang and doing drugs. Now he is serious about serving the Catholic Church full-time. The Hispanic leader has joined the diocesan staff as associate director of the Hispanic Ministry Office.

'Sunday Dinner' raises at least $10,000 for Springdale school

Deacon Chuck Marino pondered a young parishioner's suggestion that he and his wife Anita open a restaurant, but decided instead to share 300 of their favorite recipes in "Marino's Sunday Dinner & Memorable Meals." Sales provided a $10,000 scholarship fund for St. Raphael School even before the cookbook went to press.

Hispanic group transforms lives across the diocese

Fuerza Transformadora, an organization within the Diocese of Little Rock, is proving to be a transforming force in the lives of many Hispanics. The organization's website lists as one of its objectives: "Make known that Christ is among us and has called us to evangelize not with power but with great power."

Mass set near closed abortion clinic in Fayetteville

The Catholic community in northwest Arkansas said prayers were answered when the Fayetteville Women's Clinic announced it would close July 31. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 28 across the street from the clinic.
